STEAM in the Kitchen: Dreamers Cook Up Ramen
This month, IHDFNJ’s fourth and fifth grade Dreamer Scholars brought their curiosity and enthusiasm into the kitchen for another hands-on STEAM learning experience.
After asking for more opportunities to cook, scholars got the chance to make their own bowls of ramen while learning that cooking can be both creative and educational.
As they prepared their ramen, scholars practiced following directions, measuring ingredients, and making choices about how they wanted to customize their meals.
The experience also introduced them to the science behind cooking as they observed how ingredients changed when combined and heated.
STEAM in the Kitchen gave Dreamers an opportunity to build practical kitchen skills while connecting science, creativity, and problem-solving to something they were genuinely excited about.
By turning a favorite meal into a learning experience, scholars discovered that STEAM can be found in some of the most everyday activities.
